10305 LEGO Lion Knights Castle | Snap up this most wanted and desirable LEGO Icons Castle

Published: 1 year ago

Last Updated: 1 month ago

10305 LEGO Lion Knights Castle. Snap up this most wanted and desirable LEGO Icons Castle. LEGO has been a household name for years, and the release of their castle building sets has been iconic in the world of building block toys. The first LEGO castle set was introduced in 1978, with the release of set 375-2; LEGO Castle. It rightfully earned its place as a classic among LEGO enthusiasts with its 767 pieces, including knights, horses, and a full-sized castle with drawbridge and secret chamber. From the popularity of this set, many others emerged, from towering castles complete with ramparts and drawbridges to smaller fortresses, royal castles, and medieval kingdoms, complete with knights, peasants, and maybe even a dragon or two.

In true LEGO style, the castle theme has not stopped with medieval imagination. There are now LEGO castles inspired by Disney and a whole host of its characters including Cinderella and Belle and the Beast, Harry Potter’s Hogwarts™ Castle and the soon to be released Super Mario Dry Bowser Castle Battle Expansion Set.

Set Details

The pièce de résistance is a medieval drawbridge and portcullis that open, along with a mill featuring a turning waterwheel. Not to mention, there are towers, turrets, living quarters, and an armoury waiting to be discovered. You can then prepare for epic battles and an endless world of daring escapes with the 22 minifigures included.

Theme Analysis

LEGO Icons is a theme we have visited regularly for our investment pieces, and seems a large focus for LEGO lately with it containing many of their recently launched large sets including The Lord of the Rings Rivendell (10316), LEGO Eiffel Tower (10307) and LEGO Titanic (10294).

Whilst historically it doesn’t have the huge growth of some other themes, we think it is on an upward trend and future values will outperform the themes current growth.

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
10234 Sydney Opera House 31/12/2016 $320 $378 18% 2%
10253 Big Ben 31/12/2018 $250 $392 57% 8%
10256 Taj Mahal 31/12/2020 $370 $412 11% 3%
10261 Roller Coaster 31/12/2021 $380 $405 7% 2%

Comparable Set Analysis

We have moved away from Icons and into the now discontinued Castles theme for our comparable sets analysis. There have been a huge amount of LEGO Castles over time, including many within the licensed themes including LEGO Disney, LEGO Harry Potter and LEGO Super Mario.

The Castle theme contained 280 sets spanning for the early 1990s and contains some hugely successful sets none more so than 383-2 Knights Joust which cost just £10 in 1979 but is now worth over £3,000 and 375-2 Castle which cost just under £40 in 1978 and is now worth nearly £8,000!

We have reviewed the 4 closest sets below, all of which have shown over 10% annualised growth over long periods since retirement and underpin our belief that this set will become a great investment when it retires.

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
10176 King's Castle 31/12/2007 $100 $528 428% 10%
6086 Black Knight's Castle 01/09/1993 $85 $5,369 6,216% 14%
6090 Royal Knight's Castle 01/07/1996 $95 $1,845 1,842% 11%
70404 King's Castle 31/12/2014 $100 $416 316% 16%
