Theme Analysis
The LEGO Technic theme produces annualised growth of a steady 6% on average, and the Licensed sub theme does even better at 8% annually. We have looked at some of the Licensed sets below including the amazing LEGO Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056) which has seen over 150% growth since retiring 5 years ago (20% annualised growth), but the performance can be mixed as shown by LEGO Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (42093) which has only seen annualised growth of 5% since retiring in 2021.
Set Number | Set Name | Retired Date | RRP | Current Value | Total Growth | Annualised Growth |
42056 | Porsche 911 GT3 RS | 31/12/2018 | $300 | $836 | 179% | 20% |

Comparable Set Analysis
We have chosen to look at the other LEGO Lamborghini cars that have retired in some of the other LEGO themes (LEGO Speed Champions and LEGO Racers). All have seen excellent performance, inline or slightly outperforming their overall theme.
LEGO 8169 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 has seen nearly 500% growth since retiring in 2010 and LEGO 76899 Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Huracán Super Trofeo EVO has almost doubled in value since retiring at the end of 2021.
Set Number | Set Name | Retired Date | RRP | Current Value | Total Growth | Annualised Growth |
76899 | Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Huracán Super Trofeo EVO | 31/12/2021 | $50 | $145 | 190% | 47% |
8169 | Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 | 31/12/2010 | $60 | $333 | 455% | 13% |
8214 | Lamborghini Polizia | 31/07/2011 | $60 | $250 | 317% | 11% |
Conclusion
Newly launched and closely related to its green brother LEGO 42161, this is a set we prefer and will definitely be buying to build as soon as it is launched but won’t be looking to buy as an investment yet.
Whilst we like the LEGO Technic theme and LEGO cars as investments, we think there are better options currently. If looking to invest specifically in a LEGO Lamborghini then currently we would look to buy LEGO Speed Champions Lamborghini Countach (76908) which is expected to retire this year.
